CASSO'S CORNER: LOCAL HATE

So i'm back for another episode of casso's corner..... TOPIC, LOCAL HATE! do you have it in your city?....if you're saying no....ur giving yourself a little TOO much Credit! lately i been showin my face around my city....(well town) because this ain't big enough to be a city. Getting in competitions, winning them, and getting the hate that i never thought i would get. somebody even said "YO YOU TRASH" even though i was the only person in there with an original song.....i don't even wanna get into it.... anyways, if you have the audacity to hate, do you atleast have the talent to get up there and give a show better than i do?.....do you have the balls to be humble? because i speak on behalf of highcalibermusic the hcm gang has been humble since day one. We're young and getting a buzz....maybe that's it, nah i'm gonna say that's it....We're too young to be liked...that has a ring to it. JD Riggz i think that's what it is brotha, hate isn't because we're the team....hate is because we're young....and the team! i mean shit.....Masterpiece Theatre is coming out just in time for the holiday spirit, RTGv4 HIStory and GS2 is turning heads, and.....we just did a couple of shows, and no matter what we do, we see the eyes squint a little bit, ya bottom lip shrivle up, and ya tone of voice changes when we get off the stage.......If you feel you have hate in your area, chances are you're doing something they can't!...... So How Do you Deal with them? Oh it's simple, go harder, you're success is based on the amount of hate and attention you draw, the more they hate on you, the bigger the spotlight, it's hard not to hate on someone in return, but they do that so they can feel important, don't make them important, shit don't even focus on them, because theyre so focused on you that their gonna have to like your product and music atleast.....well i'm fuckin done for the night, i gotta go to work in the morning and sturr up some more reasons to hate on high Caliber music....SCRATCH THAT IT'S THE MOVEMENT!

New Joint!!! JD Riggz-"Runnin' 4 Your Life(Prod. by Santeez)
Hello World. I'm back. Every week or so I'm going to keep grinding and putting out new joints(either song or freestyle) and decided to put it out there for y'all enjoyment. Something real quick. Oh yeah, HIStory 2 is a classic. Alot of suprises. Even switching up the sound for y'all. I promise, I'm gonna still keep it real gutta, real gritty, real old school but just updated-on a musical scale. Real vintage. But In a few weeks, you'll get where I'm trying to go and what I'm trying to say. This was done with my man Santeez, also a good friend and fellow Rochester artist/producer. So For now, Enjoy. ~Riggz

R.I.P BERNIE MAC

CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) -- Bernie Mac, the Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actor and comedian who worked his way to Hollywood success from an impoverished upbringing on Chicago's South Side, died Saturday at age 50.

Bernie Mac, 50, was nominated for a Grammy for "The Original Kings of Comedy."

"Actor/comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital," his publicist, Danica Smith, said in a statement from Los Angeles, California.
She said no other details were available and asked that his family's privacy be respected.
The comedian suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body's organs, but had said the condition went into remission in 2005. He recently was hospitalized and treated for pneumonia, which his publicist said was not related to the disease.
Recently, Mac's brand of comedy caught him flack when he was heckled during a surprise appearance at a July fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate and fellow Chicagoan Barack Obama.
Toward the end of a 10-minute standup routine, Mac joked about menopause, sexual infidelity and promiscuity, and used occasional crude language. The performance earned him a rebuke from Obama's campaign.
But despite controversy or difficulties, in his words, Mac was always a performer.

Comic had been said to be recovering
iReport.com: Share your appreciation of Bernie Mac
"Wherever I am, I have to play," he said in 2002. "I have to put on a good show."
Mac started his comedy career at age 8, with a standup performance at a church dinner. In 1977, at age 20, he took that act to comedy clubs in Chicago.
His film career started with a small role as a club doorman in the Damon Wayans movie "Mo' Money" in 1992. In 1996, he appeared in the Spike Lee drama "Get on the Bus."
Mac went on to star in the "Ocean's Eleven" franchise with Brad Pitt and George Clooney. His turn with Ashton Kutcher in 2005's "Guess Who?" -- a remake of the Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn 1967 classic "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?" -- topped the box office.
Mac also had starring roles in "Bad Santa," "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle" and "Transformers."
In the late 1990s, he had a recurring role in "Moesha," the UPN network comedy starring pop star Brandy.
The comedian drew critical and popular acclaim with his Fox television series "The Bernie Mac Show," which aired more than 100 episodes from 2001 to 2006.
The series about a man's adventures raising his sister's three children won a Peabody Award in 2002. At the time, judges wrote they chose the sitcom for transcending "race and class while lifting viewers with laughter, compassion -- and cool." iReport.com: Share your appreciation for Bernie Mac
The show garnered Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for Mac.
"But television handcuffs you, man," he said in a 2001 Associated Press interview. "Now everyone telling me what I CAN'T do, what I CAN say, what I SHOULD do, and asking, 'Are blacks gonna be mad at you? Are whites gonna accept you?"'
He also was nominated for a Grammy award for best comedy album in 2001 along with his "The Original Kings of Comedy" co-stars, Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley and Cedric The Entertainer.
In 2007, Mac told David Letterman on CBS' "Late Show" that he planned to retire soon.
"I'm going to still do my producing, my films, but I want to enjoy my life a little bit," Mac told Letterman. "I missed a lot of things, you know. I was a street performer for two years. I went into clubs in 1977."
Mac was born Bernard Jeffrey McCullough on October 5, 1957, in Chicago. He grew up on the city's South Side, living with his mother and grandparents. His grandfather was a deacon in a Baptist church.
In his 2004 memoir, "Maybe You Never Cry Again," Mac wrote about having a poor childhood -- eating bologna for dinner -- and a strict, no-nonsense upbringing.
Mac's mother died of cancer when he was 16. In his book, Mac said she was a support for him and told him he would surprise everyone when he grew up.
"Woman believed in me," he wrote. "She believed in me long before I believed."

Politics & Bullshit by JD Riggz

Politics & Bullsh*t
Blog Entry #1
Yo what it do what it did people?. It's JD Riggz. I'm bringing you my thoughts of the record industry and the shady-ness within it. I'll be doing this every week or so to let you and everybody else know what's up with me and the squad.
Let's get right into it...The rap game is so confusing right now. I hear alot of talk about hip-hop being dead or hip-hop missing something. Honestly, I agree but at the same time hip-hop fans have it in their head already of who they want to listen to. Time's change. And with time's changing, so does the music. People have to realize that you have to forget about hearing the same sound you heard in '93 with De La Soul & A Tribe Called Quest. The music will not be the same because of the progression of not only the music and the business, but ultimatley you. Everybody remembers where they were, who they were with, what they were doing, when they first heard Nas' "Illmatic" or Dr. Dre's "The Chronic". Even recently when you first heard 50 Cent's "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" or Little Brother's "The Chitlin Circuit"(or for some "The Minstrel Show"). With the time chaning, you have to accept change. Me, I have...a little. Right now, most of my favorite "old-school" artists aren't banging out quality music so I resorted to listening to alooot of R&B( Ryan Leslie, Dwele, Rashad, D'Angelo, Van Hunt, etc.) or finding new artists(Wale, Skyzoo-my nigga, Esso, Nino Bless, Jay Electronica, Kid Cudi, Theo, AC, etc.). See, it's as simple as that. Don't complain and run ya mouth just run to the radio and TURN IT OFF.
I still got respect for the rap game but the game has no respect for me. I've done many successful things in the rap industry(not to brag, just saying). But it seems like people don't either understand my music or they don't understand me. "HIStory" in my view, and others, is that it's one of the best mixtape releases to come out this year. That's a good thing. But I think the public, and record executives are confused sort of like I'am. See, when you rap, you want a record deal. Getting that deal is like getting a schloarship to an Ivy League. People in the inside want you but some prick behind his desk says, "You're not what we're looking for". I've had that happen many times so I don't get upset anymore. I'll sit back, smoke, drink and think about the situation. After my blunt went out and I ran out of henny I just dont see what you're looking for. You want somebody who can sell records but nobody's buying records. You want somebody who can sell ringtones, but nobody can afford it. I've heard it all from "you're too lyrical", "you're too hard", "you're too hip-hop" and lastly but not least(this is a good one)"you're too new york".
My peeve about the record industry is you're going broke trying to find the next mainstream super-star but he's sitting right in front of your face. Even if you sign the most underground act, you can splash and dash them into superstar status. Record labels can actually make people buy records. Instead, they want the quick-buck of a ringtone sale. I don't know why labels are thinking short-term but longevity of the labels rest on the longevity of their artists.
Maybe I'm just confused. Maybe I see way more in myself than I should. I think I'm one of the best like any other MC should think the same. It's not being cocky or arrogant it's just the public and press thinks the same thing. Maybe I'm too much of a real nigga for the industry. But all in all, I give this rap game my all. I'm just an everyday man trapped in the everyday struggle trying to make it out. Same with my crew. One day(and soon), I hope people realize my vision, wake-up. Or maybe one day, I can just stopped being confused.

Another "HIStory" Review

One more review for the mixtape, "HIStory". If you don't got it then get it. Leave comments and tell us if you agree. Shoutouts to hiphopruckus.com. Peep:
With the plethora of rappers that are coming out in 2008, it is hard to keep filter the good music from the bad music. Whose real and who’s not. So for the next few weeks I’m going to give you a little help on who to be on the look out for, because after all we control, what’s hot and what’s not. I know some of you don’t think that, but our power is simple as just turning off the music, or calling up a JD and telling him who need to get some shine.

Well for the first week, we head to Upstate New York to meet a talented MC by the name of JD Riggz. The young MC has a raw spitting talent, who knows how to stay on the beat and knows how to make a record. He is sure to be on his way and the proof is his latest mixtape titled HISstory. Now some of the music will either make you think or not, and there were some parts that had me wondering which way is he going, but it all made sense when I listened to the record weight of the world. Now for most people it will sound kind of 80’s ish, and for others it will sound like synthesizer going through labor on the hooks, but if you can manage to fight through the production, you can hear some real good lyrics, that if taken more time to be polished, it will be a problem.

The next song I listened to was the paper. Now this is more synthesizer music that will make you feel fuzzy inside and its accessory is a good melodic hook, but if you dig deep into the song, you will find hints of talent Riggz displays, but not enough to sell you on. So if you’re going to hear anything from him first, don’t let it be this song.

But if you want to completely sold, then check out like me. It might sound like a slow club banger for some, but it definitely gets its point across with the horns and the hook. Overall this was a good song and it made me want to hear more from the dude. JD Riggz is really talented and he is on his way, but most of the songs are real slow paced, summarizer music that are more geared for us to make it seem like he should be compared with Lupe Fiasco. I think a few more fast paced song will sell to a larger crowed, but if you’re into the strings and the hums like I am, this album will be for you. Now=2 0if you know me in the past, I don’t do thumbs up or stars, that stuff is corny unless you’re in Beijing scoring a gymnast. So it’s either hot or not. And JD Riggz HIStory album is… okay for some, but great for others. But with experience comes skill and JD Riggz will find his way.

50 Cent Sues Taco Bell Over Ads

"NEW YORK (AP) — 50 Cent has sued Taco Bell, claiming the fast-food restaurant chain is using his name without permission in advertising that asks him to call himself 99 Cent.

The rapper says in a federal lawsuit filed Wednesday that the Mexican-themed chain features him in a print ad asking him to change his name to 79 Cent, 89 Cent or 99 Cent. His real name is Curtis Jackson.

The rapper's court papers say the ad is part of Taco Bell's "Why Pay More?" campaign, which promotes items for under a dollar, including Cinnamon Twists for 79 cents, Crunchy Tacos for 89 cents and Bean Burritos for 99 cents. The papers say the Irvine, Calif.-based company sent a bogus letter requesting the name change to the news media but not to the rapper.

The rapper's lawyer, Peter D. Raymond, said his client didn't learn about the letter or that he was featured in the ad campaign until he saw a news report about it. Raymond said his client is seeking $4 million in damages.

Taco Bell Corp. spokesman Rob Poetsch issued a statement saying: "We made a good faith, charitable offer to 50 Cent to change his name to either 79, 89 or 99 Cent for one day by rapping his order at a Taco Bell, and we would have been very pleased to make the $10,000 donation to the charity of his choice."

This isn't the first time 50 Cent has sued over his name or image.

In July 2007, he filed a $1 million lawsuit accusing an Internet ad company of using his image without permission in a game called "Shoot the Rapper," in which the player pretends to shoot him.

The game shows 50 Cent walking in an ad across the top of a Web page while the viewer is encouraged to shoot him by aiming and clicking with the mouse, the rapper's court papers said; a successful shot results in a misty cloud of red, and then the viewer is directed to another Web page, where the ad firms clients sell goods and services.

The rapper is a well-known victim of gun violence: He was shot outside his grandmother's Queens home in 2000 and rapped in one of his biggest hits, "In da Club," about being hit with a few shells.

The rapper has been nominated for 13 Grammys, including for the song "In da Club" and the album "Get Rich or Die Tryin'." In 2005, he starred with Terrence Howard in a semi-autobiographical movie based on that album. He also starred in the 2006 film "Home of the Brave" as a soldier returning home from Iraq."

Well thats it. i will be posting rumors in the coming days prolly once or twice a week to get them all at once. hope you enjoyed this and have a great weekend

"I got a story to tell," says local MC JD Riggz on the intro to his new mixtape, HIStory. For the most part, it's a story that's been told before about the poverty, drugs and violence that make up the life of a young street hustler but rarely, at least on a local scale, has it been laid out with the kind of wit and charisma Riggz brings to the table.
It's not just his metaphors though they're quite good ("The flow's sick like an AIDs patient.") it's the precise punch lines. "You a ridah? I'll turn ya'll into crash-test dummies," he warns on the intro.
And who cares if the gun talk's just for show? Built in the mold of quick-witted MCs like Cam'ron and Juelz Santana, Riggz rides the beat with a slow-paced drawl so that listeners will hang on his every word.
And Riggz certainly chooses the right beats to perfectly match his style. Producers INFO & Nova's triumphant horns on "Road To Riches" match Riggz's uncompromising bravado, boast for boast, while the low-key Isley Brothers sample on "Weight of the World" (produced by Majik and Riggz) takes the ideal backseat to Riggz's words like "I'm the rap world's David Ruffin/But the label's say a n**ga's not buzzin."
With 19 tracks, HIStory is a bit overloaded, and it does drag slightly when Riggz freestyles over other rappers' beats such as Jay-Z's "Dead Presidents" or Kanye West's "All Falls Down."
Still, even the few weak points can't take away from standouts such as the soulful "Rebel Without A Cause" or the fantastic "Yellow Tape Rap," on which Riggz spits gems like "Why I beef with n**gas when I know they shook? I have 'em talking through a box like a T-Pain hook."
Troy's rating: 3.5 stars
